The Latest On School Finance
The news is slowly tricking out of Austin, but apparently they are trying to see that the school doors will open in August after all.
Here's the latest (most of it from the Austin American-Statesman):
Here's the latest (most of it from the Austin American-Statesman):
- Comptroller Strayhorn says Perry's plan sucks. No surprise...she wants his job. That said, she's almost always critical of him, and she's almost always right.
- The Democrats' plan was voted down. Again, no surprise. We almost don't matter in this debate and can't take any of the blame. There aren't enough of us in the legislature to count...literally and figuratively. Most troubling, though, a lot of the Rs actually voted for it, meaning a good plan with bipartisan appeal went down in flames.
- House Republicans have been attacking each other on tax questions.
- Governor Perry has taken his show on the road.
- Some Republicans, thankfully, are pissed we're in this mess.
- Speaker Craddick (who killed the Democrats' plan) says the schools will open no matter what. I don't believe him.
More as it develops. I'm trying to find Alice Cooper's phone number. Stay tuned.
